Uses for THHN Wire, MC Cable and Tinned Copper

THHN Wire is abbreviation for Thermoplastic High Heat-Resistant Nylon coated wire and is classified under the hook-up wire. This type of wire is used in almost every residential and commercial structure. THHN Wire can come in standard or solid conductors depending on the size. It is made up of aluminum and copper and has a cover of PVC insulation. Many manufacturers also apply it with a layer of nylon jacket to survive in hotter and colder locations. This wire is used in building structures and also used in the control circuit wiring, machine tools and some other appliances. THHN Wire can't be used in all electrical devices because of the smoke it causes when burnt and this smoke can overheat the equipment and can be harmful.

Electrical service professionals know very well which appliances it can be used with and in which can't be used. THHN wire's thin PVC insulation layer can cause leakage also. Despite of all these drawbacks, THHN wire is still a popular wiring choice of many people because it is cost effective and saves both time and energy when new wiring is needed. To ensure the safety of THHN Wires and preventing those from cracking during installation some important steps are necessary to take. First, store them indoors and a stable temperature of 65°F is ideal, don't install cable when the temperature out door is below 14°F. In case of cold temperature, don't drop it and protect it from cracking while having impact with stiffened material.

MC Cable whether aluminum or copper, is used underground or outdoor. Aluminum MC Cable is made up of THHN wire and has aluminum clad armor. It also comes with a PVC jacket cover over the aluminum armor to protect it from moisture. This is the reason that it can be used underground without using conduit. The copper MC Cable also can be used both outdoor and underground. Copper MC Cable is a better conductor of electricity because of copper. While aluminum MC Cable is cheaper than copper cable and if this wire is used in appliances, then there will also be need a gauge size due to electricity difference. These cables are the best choice because even for a bigger gauge, it will cost less including the shipping due to weighing less than copper.

Tinned Copper is the copper wire coated with tin which is extraordinary conductive, plus ten times more durable and has more strength then a normal non-tinned copper wire. Individual copper strands that are coated with copper are called Intinned Copper. The Tinned Copper can be produced using two ways. First is hot dripping, in which melted tin is used to dip the copper strands. Second way is electroplating, in which electrical charges or rectifiers are used to tin copper. Tinned Copper wire is used in many boating and marine projects due to improved water resistant feature. It can also be used in overhead power sources such as transit systems.

How to replace the power wire a Hayward Power-flo Matrix Pool Pump?

I'm replacing the power wire for my 1.5 hp Hayward power-flo matrix pool pump SP1510. I took the old one off last year and didn't mark down which wire goes where. It's a three wire power cable.
Not sure where the black and white get plugged into. If someone has a diagram or a picture. Please help.

As long as the green wire is on the "ground" screw (which is the green one) you can plug the black and white to either port. I worked on these for many years. Look at the diagram on the motor. It will tell you which ports to use. If the motor diagram is worn off, just go to Hayward's website. www.haywardnet.com and you can download owners manuals there. If you are still apprehensive take it to your local Leslie's. Leslies always offers free labor. Just buy the plug and ask them to put it on. They might have to check it in because they get very busy this time of year, but they won't charge you to put it on.
