Can the outer part of the colon cause pain?
A GI doctor told me that you can't have pain on the inside of the colon. That there aren't any pain -sensing nerves on the inside of the colon. I'm just curious, what about the outside of the colon? Like on top or the outer layer?
For the most part the organs don't have pain sensors in them. When they act up it's from the body around the area that the pain comes from or when the organ isn't working at all. If you feel there is pain around your colon it would more than likely be happening because of tight back muscles that can press into the nerves going to the organs. If there is pressure on the nerves to your colon or any other organ in that area it can be making it act up to feel uncomfortable to let you know something is happening in that area that shouldn't be happening. To find out if this is going on you have to free up your back muscles, if the pain goes away it was due to the tight muscles, if the pain stays continue to bug your dr. about it for the pain is something internal and should be found out as to what is causing it. Here's how to free up your back muscles to find out if your pain is muscular in nature:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
